My First Australia Day

January 26, 2007

Today was my first Australia Day ever. To celebrate having a day off work and a long weekend, Mum, Dad, Linda and I went to Centennial Park for a picnic, and I wore my new “Green n’ Gold” jumpsuit given to me by Linda. The grown-ups told me that, on previous Australia Days, they’d gone all out in terms off food, creating such hotchpotch delights as Kangaroo Bruschetta and Penang Crocodile Pizza. However, Mum and Dad started a health-kick this week so it was plain old low fat, high protein, bunless hamburgers on the menu. On top of that, and much to my disgust, they were drinking Perrier mineral water - on “Australia” Day - although, this could have been an attempt to make fun of the French for being pipped at the post 218 years ago today.

After our picnic, we drove to The Rocks, where we met Aunty Rebecca and Aunty Sam, then strolled through The Rocks Markets to Caminetto Italian Restaurant where we had some beers and a small bite to eat. Mum and Dad shared a dozen oysters and washed them down with a James Boag’s Premium. I had milk.
