My Christening
Today I was Christened.
Mum, Dad and I met all the guests outside the Holy Family Catholic Church in Maroubra at about 10:15 AM. There were 15 guests in total, including:
- Linda(Godmother)
- Elaine (Linda’s Mum)
- Susan (Godmother)
- Michael (Susan’s Husband)
- Ryan (Susan and Michael’s Son)
- Robyn (Mum’s Mum)
- Rebecca (Mum’s Sister)
- Samantha (Mum’s Sister)
- Natalie (Dad’s Sister)
- Cora (Mum’s friend)
- David (Cora’s Husband)
- Kate (Cora and David’s Daughter)
- Cormack (Cora and David’s Son)
- Tom (Dad’s friend)
- Dan (Dad’s friend)
I didn’t want to be Christened on an empty stomach, so I started off with a tasty drop of formula.
Before long, I’d half-filled my belly (the other half I put on Dad’s pants - lucky they were dark) and was ready to change into my dress Christening Gown for a pre-service photo-op with Mum and Dad. Speaking of my Christening Gown, as you have read above, we decided to break with tradition slightly and go with two Godmothers. However, I thought this was generally befitting a ceremony that appeared to me to be all about getting into efiminate attire.
The service kicked off at around 10:30 AM. The Priest was Fr. Bill Challenor and I found him very interesting. In fact, there were seven other children being Christened at the same time - but It seems I was the only one really interested in what Fr. Challenor had to say.
Before I knew it I was cleansed of my sins by the blood of Christ, by the Holy Spirit, who united me to Christ in His death, and in His resurrection from the dead - just in time for more photos.
After everyone ran out of disk-space, we all met at our flat for a BBQ. Mum and Dad had bought a new BBQ from Barbeques Galore in the Homemakers SupaCenta Moore Park - a Turbo Classic 3 Burner on Pedestal - the day before especially for my Christening party. The Turbo Classic is an Australian favourite, and perfect for the small balcony, patio or courtyard
Soon enough, we’d vaporised every piece of non-human flesh we could get our tongs on, made a significant contribution to the incidence of bowel Cancer, and were ready for dessert - a big, fancy cake that Linda had made specially for me - topped off with my gorgeous likeness.
Can you see the resemblance?
So, the good thing about being Christened:
- Party
- Presents
- Cake
…and the bad:
- They made me wear a dress
- They made me wear a dress
- They made me wear a dress
