Today, Mum, Dad, Linda and I went on an adventure to Mount Kosciuszko. Mount Kosciuszko is Australia’s highest peak standing at 2228 metres above sea level. The Europeans were the first to scale the mountain, with Polish explorer Paul Edmund Strzelecki naming the peak after its similarity to the tomb of the Polish patriot Kosciuszko. Even though it’s summer, we were well equipped with warm clothes as the weather can change really quickly up there. Our adventure started in Thredbo Village with a ride on the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift which is is 1.8km long and rises 560 vertical metres from the village. I know it must have been a very comfortable ride as I slept for most of it.
When we got to the top, we stopped for a quick photo before heading off to Mount Kosciuszko.
Even though it was a sunny day, and quite warm in the village, it was only about 16 degrees celcius on the walk to Mount Kosciuszko, and there were thousands of flies swarming all over us. It was so bad that Linda gave up after only a few metres! Despite this, Mum, Dad and I made it to the Mount Kosciuszko Lookout.
At this point Mum and Dad decided it might be best to save the full adventure until I am a bit older as my little cheeks and ankles were getting windburn, so we headed back to the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift for a ride back to Thredbo Village. Personally, I could have kept going. I know I was comfortable because, as usual, I slept for most of it.
We arrived in the village with me looking a little worse for wear but richer for the experience.
I just can’t wait until next time when I’ll be going straight to the summit of Mound Mount Kosciuszko.
